Places to Visit in your Trek to Choquequirao

Choquequirao Trek, comes from the Quechua “chuqi”, “gold”, and from “kiraw”, cradle, that is to say: “cradle of gold”. It is considered to be the sister Inca city of Machu Picchu, due to its architectural and structural similarity. It is also known as the lost city of the Incas, and is one of the most important hiking destinations in Peru and the world.

The Apurimac Canyon is the most important formation in the Andes of southern Peru. This river consists of turbulent and winding waters of the river Apurímac. In addition, unique landscapes of wild flora and fauna can be observed in various ecological floors. Considered one of the deepest in America and possibly the world.

In the tour we will also visit the Saywite stone, a granite block 2.30 meters high, 11 meters circumference and 4 meters in diameter. More than 200 phytomorphic, zoomorphic and anthropomorphic figures, carved in an apparent disorder, are carved in the same stone. In addition, around the Saywite stone you can observe geographical environments, cultivation terraces, irrigation canals and other buildings.

The Thermal Baths of Cconoc. This spa of thermo-medicinal waters is located at the foot of the river Apurímac, a landscape full of carob trees, reeds and cactus. The waters of this spa are odorless and pleasantly saline in taste, and have healing properties, perfect for walkers looking to relax. This place is visited by many people, by those seeking relief from diseases such as arthritis, rheumatism, muscle aches or looking for a little relaxing.
