Choquequirao Treks

Between the regions of Apurimac and Cusco is Choquequirao (Cradle of Gold), a solid Inca complex that has barely been valued at 30 percent of all that it is, and that in the last decade has positioned itself as one of the most interesting, demanding, and unforgettable trekking among the mountain possibilities of the planet. Reaching the Inca citadel of Choquequirao is a journey in itself.
From the Cusco – Abancay route at the height of km 817 a detour is taken to the town of Cachora, from here begins the trekking to Choquequirao, which takes between 3 to 4 days round trip.

At 1500 meters above the Apurimac River, and at 3033 meters above sea level, Choquequirao lies on the slopes of the snowy Yanama, which is part of the spectacular Salkantay mountain range. According to the chroniclers Choquequirao was the last refuge of Manco Inca, with a resistance that lasted 40 years. The complex coast of 12 zones, divided into a ceremonial sector (Hanan) and another low (Urin), craft sectors and services, an administrative sector, an area of corrals, areas dedicated to solar worship and that of ancestors, as well as the infallible ushnu or usno, the ritual space always present in important buildings of the Inca culture.
